Logan Gilbert
Logan Gilbert Fans eight in no-decision
Fri, Mar 28, 2025, 9:20 AM
Gilbert didn't factor in the decision Thursday against the Athletics after striking out eight, giving up one run on two hits and no walks over seven innings.
Analysis: The right-hander kept the A's off the board except for a solo homer from Tyler Soderstrom during the fifth inning, as Gilbert and Luis Severino engaged in a pitcher's duel before the two bullpens combined to allow five runs across the seventh and eighth innings. Gilbert consistently worked from ahead in the count and threw a first-pitch strike to 22 of the 23 batters he faced. He's established himself as one of the most reliable starters in MLB and should seriously contend for the AL Cy Young Award, especially if he can improve even slightly on his 3.23 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 220:37 K:BB across 208.2 innings from last year.
Mitch Garver
Mitch Garver Absent from Opening Day lineup
Thu, Mar 27, 2025, 3:29 PM
Garver is not in the lineup for Thursday's opener against the Athletics, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Luke Raley is getting the start at designated hitter and Rowdy Tellez is at first base as the A's send right-hander Luis Severino to the bump. Garver will be the Mariners' regular DH versus lefties and should play some against righties, too, but he'll begin Opening Day on the bench.
Rowdy Tellez
Rowdy Tellez Starting at first base in opener
Thu, Mar 27, 2025, 3:24 PM
Tellez will start at first base and bat seventh in Thursday's opener against the Athletics, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Tellez had appeared in line to handled designated hitter duties, but he will play first base instead while Luke Raley occupies the DH spot. The 30-year-old is looking for a bounce-back 2025 season after he slashed only .243/.299/.392 in 131 games last year for the Pirates.
Ryan Bliss
Ryan Bliss Wins second-base job to open season
Wed, Mar 26, 2025, 3:06 AM
Bliss has won Seattle's starting job at second base, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Dylan Moore (illness) and Leo Rivas, the latter of whom was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday, were also competing for the gig this spring, but Bliss put together the most impressive camp. The 25-year-old will be part of the Opening Day roster for the first time in his career after hitting .308 with two RBI, two stolen bases and a .787 OPS in 40 Cactus League plate appearances. Although Bliss has earned a starting position to open the season, his fantasy upside will likely remain limited he is hitting in the lower part of the lineup and also playing at pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park for home games.
Cal Raleigh
Cal Raleigh Inks $105M contract extension
Tue, Mar 25, 2025, 1:24 PM
The Mariners signed Raleigh to a six-year, $105 million contract extension Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The deal begins this season and buys out Raleigh's final years of arbitration eligibility as well as his first three years of free agency. Raleigh has become baseball's preeminent power bat at catcher, easily leading the position with 76 home runs over the past three seasons. The 28-year-old also captured his first Gold Glove in 2024.
Rowdy Tellez
Rowdy Tellez Added to Seattle roster
Tue, Mar 25, 2025, 12:13 PM
The Mariners selected Tellez's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Mitch Haniger's release signified that this move was coming and now it's official. Tellez won a job by collecting an .894 OPS with three home runs this spring, and he could see fairly regular playing time against right-handed pitching between designated hitter and first base.
Matt Brash
Matt Brash Fares well in Cactus League outing
Mon, Mar 24, 2025, 8:27 PM
Brash (elbow) struck out two batters and walked one in two-thirds of an inning during Monday's Cactus League game against the Padres.
Analysis: Brash appeared to be amped up in what was his first live action since undergoing an internal brace procedure last May. He fired his first pitch at 98 mph and struck out the first batter he faced on three pitches. Brash then struck out the next batter he faced and walked the third, resulting in his removal after 12 pitches. According to Shannon Drayer of Seattle Times Sports, the next step for Brash will be to make sure he emerges from Monday's outing without any issues. If all goes as planned over the next day or so, he'll likely be scheduled for throwing on the back fields later in the week, followed by a rehab stint at Triple-A Tacoma.
Matt Brash
Matt Brash Poised for Cactus League debut
Mon, Mar 24, 2025, 2:07 PM
Brash (elbow) will make his Cactus League debut Monday against the Padres, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: It will be the first game appearance for Brash since last May's internal brace procedure. The hard-throwing reliever remains on track to make his season debut for the Mariners around May 1. As long as his pre-surgery stuff is intact, Brash should fill a high-leverage role in Seattle's bullpen.
Victor Robles
Victor Robles In lineup for spring finale
Mon, Mar 24, 2025, 1:00 PM
Robles (hand) will start in right field and bat leadoff in Monday's Cactus League game against the Padres.
Analysis: Robles was pulled from Saturday's game against the White Sox after being struck on the right hand by a pitch, but he avoided any broken bones. After checking out fine while taking live batting practice Sunday, the swelling and soreness in Robles' hand has apparently subsided enough to the point that the 27-year-old has been cleared to play in the Mariners' spring finale. Assuming he comes out of Monday's contest no worse for the wear, Robles should be ready to handle leadoff duties for Seattle in Thursday's season opener versus the Athletics.
Leo Rivas
Leo Rivas Optioned to Triple-A
Sun, Mar 23, 2025, 4:07 PM
The Mariners optioned Rivas to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.
Analysis: The 27-year-old was competing for a spot on Seattle's Opening Day bench but will instead begin the campaign back at Tacoma. Rivas had an .865 OPS in 63 games at Triple-A last year but struggled over 86 plate appearances in the big leagues with a .233/.333/.274 slash line.
Casey Legumina
Casey Legumina Sent to Triple-A
Sun, Mar 23, 2025, 3:59 PM
The Mariners optioned Legumina to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.
Analysis: The right-hander was acquired from the Reds for cash considerations in February but was unable to earn a spot on the Mariners' Opening Day roster. Legumina has a 6.95 ERA in 17 big-league appearances during his career, and he'll likely fill a low-leverage role if called up by Seattle.
Dylan Moore
Dylan Moore Removed from lineup with illness
Sun, Mar 23, 2025, 12:06 PM
Moore was scratched from Sunday's spring lineup due to an illness, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Moore was originally slated to start at third base Sunday, but Miles Mastrobuoni has been moved there in his place. Moore will look to recover in time for Opening Day and is expected to serve in a utility role this season.
Victor Robles
Victor Robles X-rays return negative
Sun, Mar 23, 2025, 11:14 AM
Robles had X-rays on his right hand come back negative, and he will hit in a batting cage Sunday, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.
Analysis: The 27-year-old was hit by a pitch during Saturday's spring game but appears to have avoided a significant injury. Assuming Robles doesn't experience any additional complications, it appears he'll be ready to go for the season opener Thursday versus the A's.
Victor Robles
Victor Robles Manager optimistic after HBP
Sat, Mar 22, 2025, 6:25 PM
Mariners manager Dan Wilson "sounded optimistic" that Robles would be OK after the outfielder was hit by a pitch on his right hand and forced to exit Saturday's Cactus League game against the White Sox, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. However, Robles will still need to undergo an X-ray and possibly other tests.
Analysis: Robles appeared to be in considerable pain after taking a slider to the wrist in his fourth plate appearance Saturday. This initial word is positive, but Robles is not out of the woods yet. He is looking to build on his excellent run with Seattle last season during which he slashed .328/.393/.467 with four homers and 30 steals in just 77 games.
Victor Robles
Victor Robles Exits game after HBP
Sat, Mar 22, 2025, 5:57 PM
Robles left Saturday's Cactus League game against the White Sox after being hit by a pitch on his right hand, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Robles singled in both of his first two trips but was then plunked in his fourth plate appearance, and he appeared to be in considerable pain. The Mariners figure to send him for tests right away to determine the extent of the injury.
Dominic Canzone
Dominic Canzone Optioned to Tacoma
Sat, Mar 22, 2025, 2:05 PM
The Mariners optioned Canzone to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.
Analysis: Canzone didn't put up much of a fight in the race for an Opening Day roster spot, slashing just .209/.244/.395 with three RBI and nine runs scored in 45 plate appearances. He'll now look to earn his way back to the majors in Tacoma, where he finished with an .888 OPS across 29 games last season.
Austin Shenton
Austin Shenton Sent to Tacoma
Sat, Mar 22, 2025, 1:58 PM
The Mariners optioned Shenton to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.
Analysis: In his first spring with the Mariners after being traded from Tampa Bay during the offseason, Shenton went 9-for-34 with two RBI, four runs scored and 13 strikeouts. He'll now head to Triple-A to begin the 2025 campaign but could soon work his way back to Seattle, as he owns a .932 OPS across his Triple-A career.
George Kirby
George Kirby Will throw again Saturday
Fri, Mar 21, 2025, 2:23 PM
Kirby (shoulder) made 20 throws from 60 feet Friday and will expand his throwing distance to 75 feet Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Kirby was cleared to begin a throwing program Friday, two weeks after being sidelined with right shoulder inflammation. The right-hander was given a biologics injection last week, which he said definitely helped speed along the healing process. There is no timetable for when Kirby will be ready to make his season debut, as the Mariners will have to see how he responds to the ramp-up.
George Kirby
George Kirby Plays catch Friday
Fri, Mar 21, 2025, 12:24 PM
Kirby (shoulder) played catch with a trainer for a few minutes Friday, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.
Analysis: It's not much, but it's the first time Kirby's done any throwing since he was diagnosed with right shoulder inflammation March 7. The right-hander is hoping to be ready for his season debut around mid-April, but a clear timeline for the right-hander has not yet been established.
Julio Rodriguez
Julio Rodriguez Back from illness Friday
Fri, Mar 21, 2025, 10:20 AM
Rodriguez (illness) is starting in center field and batting second in Friday's split-squad game against the Reds.
Analysis: Rodriguez has been dealing with an illness this week but is ready to rejoin the lineup Friday after taking a few days to rest up. The 24-year-old totaled 20 homers and 24 steals in 143 games last season but also had a career-worst .734 OPS. Rodriguez is batting just .229 through 13 spring games but has found his power stroke with three long balls.
