Tayler Saucedo
Tayler Saucedo Sent down to minors
Mon, Jul 14, 2025, 12:46 PM
The Mariners optioned Saucedo to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.
Analysis: Saucedo took Carlos Vargas' roster spot for a few days while the latter was on paternity leave, but with Vargas returned to the active roster, Saucedo will head back to the minors. The lefty reliever has permitted four runs with a 4:3 K:BB across 4.2 frames with the big club this season.
Carlos Vargas
Carlos Vargas Back from paternity leave
Mon, Jul 14, 2025, 12:44 PM
The Mariners activated Vargas from the paternity list.
Analysis: Vargas was unavailable for the Mariners' final three games before the All-Star break while welcoming a new addition to the family, but he will be back in the bullpen for the start of the second half. The 25-year-old has posted a 3.43 ERA and 32:19 K:BB over 44.2 innings this season.
Gabe Speier
Gabe Speier Takes fourth blown save
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 10:06 PM
Speier was charged with a blown save in Sunday's 8-4 win over Detroit, allowing one run on one hit and no walks with no strikeouts in the seventh inning.
Analysis: Speier was taken deep by All-Star Riley Greene, and he was saddled with his fourth blown save of the year. Speier had gone four consecutive outings without surrendering an earned run prior to Sunday's hiccup, and he should remain an integral part of Seattle's bullpen as its lone active left-hander. Through his first 36.2 frames, Speier owns a strong 2.70 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 51:9 K:BB with 10 holds.
Casey Legumina
Casey Legumina Rough start to July continues
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 9:58 PM
Legumina recorded two outs in Sunday's 8-4 win over Detroit, allowing one run on one hit and no walks. He struck out one.
Analysis: July has not been kind to Legumina at all thus far. The right-hander has yielded eight runs over 2.1 innings (three appearances) this month, watching his ERA for the year swell from 3.31 on June 29 to 5.14 following Sunday's showing. Legumina did submit eight scoreless outings in a row to wrap up June, but he figures to continue working in lower-leverage spots until he gets back on the right track.
Mitch Garver
Mitch Garver Crushes fifth homer in win
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 9:50 PM
Garver went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 8-4 win over Detroit.
Analysis: The 34-year-old veteran backstop got a rare start at catcher to give All-Star Cal Raleigh a respite behind the plate, launching his fifth homer of the campaign. As long as Raleigh is healthy for the Mariners, Garver should continue to have a hard time finding action even as a designated hitter. Garver has struggled to find a groove, slashing just .219/.310/.344 with four doubles and 21 RBI across 171 plate appearances.
Jorge Polanco
Jorge Polanco Idle Sunday
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 11:19 AM
Polanco is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
Analysis: Polanco will get a breather to close out the Mariners' first-half schedule after he had started each of the team's last seven games. Cal Raleigh will get a day off from catching and will replace Polanco at designated hitter.
Donovan Solano
Donovan Solano Handling short-side platoon role
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 11:17 AM
Solano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
Analysis: After closing June with a .408/.453/.612 slash line over his final 15 games of the month, Solano had started to earn more opportunities against right-handed pitching. However, with his bat having since cooled down -- he's gone 3-for-15 with one walk through six contests in July -- he appears to have since faded back into a short-side platoon role. Solano will be on the bench Sunday for a ninth straight matchup against a right-hander, in this case Jack Flaherty.
Matt Brash
Matt Brash Picks up 10th hold Saturday
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 10:40 PM
Brash recorded two outs and allowed no baserunners for a hold in Saturday's 15-7 win over Detroit. He didn't record a strikeout.
Analysis: The hold was the 10th of the season for Brash, who has thrived as a setup man after beginning the year on the injured list while recovering from 2024 Tommy John surgery. The hard-throwing right-hander appears to be the next man up for save opportunities on occasions where closer Andres Munoz may be unavailable. Through his first 20.2 innings, Brash boasts a 0.87 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB.
Dominic Canzone
Dominic Canzone Goes off for four hits
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 10:17 PM
Canzone went 4-for-5 with a double and a RBI during Saturday's 15-7 win over the Tigers.
Analysis: Canzone picked up a season-high four hits Saturday, continuing a pattern of hits coming in bunches for him in July. It's already the third time this month that the 27-year-old has had a game with at least three hits. In his 23 July at-bats, he is slashing .391/.391/.609 for a 1.000 OPS. He's only played 29 games so far this season, so the question remains whether he can continue to deliver these numbers as the year rolls on.
Luke Raley
Luke Raley Hits big three-run bomb
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 10:10 PM
Raley went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run during Saturday's 15-7 win over the Tigers.
Analysis: Raley launched his first home run since June 23 against the Twins, a big three-run homer that busted the game open in the third. With one game to go before the All-Star break, the 30-year-old is up to four home runs and 17 RBI on the year, and he is slashing .230/.347/.373.
Randy Arozarena
Randy Arozarena Three-hit day in win
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 10:03 PM
Arozarena went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, four runs scored and was also hit by a pitch during Saturday's 15-7 win over the Tigers.
Analysis: Arozarena has discovered his power stroke in the last couple of weeks, and that continued to show during Saturday's big win. The 30-year-old knocked out his 16th home run of the season, eight of which have come since June 30, as part of an electrifying day at the plate and on the bases. So far, July has seen the highest OPS out of any month of the season for the outfielder, slashing .243/.293/.649 with seven RBI this month.
Julio Rodriguez
Julio Rodriguez Homers in three-hit game
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 9:51 PM
Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double, a solo home run, two RBI and three runs scored during Saturday's 15-7 win over the Tigers.
Analysis: Rodriguez snapped a lengthy home run drought Friday, and he wasted little time hitting another one Saturday, smashing a 427-foot home run to left in the sixth inning. The 24-year-old has now homered 13 times and has 48 RBI on the season, but the All-Star still has some work to do to match his numbers from prior seasons. If he keeps up this pace, his .249/.308/.405 slash line would be, across the board, the worst numbers of his four-year big-league career.
J.P. Crawford
J.P. Crawford Knocks in four runs
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 9:44 PM
Crawford went 2-for-6 with a double and four RBI during Saturday's 15-7 win over the Tigers.
Analysis: Crawford has been red-hot at the plate as the first half comes to a close, knocking in four runs in a game for the third time this season. He is also the owner of a 13-game hit streak, extended with a third-inning single and then punctuated by a bases-clearing double in the ninth. The 30-year-old's hot streak has contributed to a solid slash line of .287/.388/.387 with one game to go before the All-Star break.
George Kirby
George Kirby Shaky in victory
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 9:28 PM
Kirby (4-4) earned the win after throwing five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six, during Saturday's 15-7 win over the Tigers.
Analysis: Kirby made it nine straight starts throwing at least five innings after his performance Saturday. The Tigers got to him for four runs, tied for the most runs he's allowed in a start since the start of June, but the Mariners gave him good enough run support to get him his fourth win. The 27-year-old enters the All-Star break with a 4.50 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 56 strikeouts in 54 innings pitched.
Luis Castillo
Luis Castillo Picks up win in one-sided victory
Fri, Jul 11, 2025, 11:09 PM
Castillo (6-5) earned the win Friday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over five innings while striking out six in the 12-3 victory over the Tigers.
Analysis: Castillo shined early, yielding just one earned run through the first five innings before running into trouble opening the sixth, allowing back-to-back hits and another run before being removed with a runner on third. The 32-year-old entered the matchup coming off his best start of the season and has now posted a 3.60 ERA with 33 strikeouts and 11 walks over his last six outings.
Carlos Vargas
Carlos Vargas Placed on paternity list
Fri, Jul 11, 2025, 1:49 PM
The Mariners placed Vargas on the paternity list Friday.
Analysis: The All-Star break begins Monday, so it's likely Vargas will have the full weekend off for personal reasons before returning to the team when the schedule resumes. Seattle recalled Tayler Saucedo from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.
Tayler Saucedo
Tayler Saucedo Back in big leagues
Fri, Jul 11, 2025, 1:45 PM
The Mariners recalled Saucedo from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
Analysis: The 32-year-old will take Carlos Vargas' spot on the active roster as Vargas heads to the paternity list. Saucedo has a 3.38 ERA in 10 appearances with Tacoma, but he's yielded four runs in 3.2 innings with the Mariners in 2025. He hasn't been on the active roster since late April.
Bryan Woo
Bryan Woo Flirts with no-hitter Thursday
Fri, Jul 11, 2025, 2:26 AM
Woo took a no-decision Thursday against the Yankees, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks in 7.1 innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: It was a brilliant performance in the Bronx from Woo, who twirled seven hitless innings to begin his evening and retired 20 consecutive batters at one point before running into some trouble in the eighth. The right-hander has proven to be as reliable as any starter in the league in the first half, spinning at least six frames in 18 straight outings. Woo boasts a 2.75 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 109:21 K:BB across 114.2 innings, and he's provided plenty of stability to a Seattle rotation hit hard by injuries.
Jorge Polanco
Jorge Polanco Cracks three-run homer in loss
Thu, Jul 10, 2025, 10:38 PM
Polanco went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Yankees.
Analysis: Polanco, who has now posted at least one hit in seven of his last nine games, is really starting heat up in the power department. The veteran infielder has now smashed three homers over his first 29 at-bats of the month of July. Over his last 58 plate appearances (14 games), Polanco is also slashing an effective .240/.345/.500 with four doubles, seven RBI, seven walks and seven runs scored.
Andres Munoz
Andres Munoz Saddled with sixth blown save
Thu, Jul 10, 2025, 10:04 PM
Munoz was charged with a blown save in Thursday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Yankees, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk with no strikeouts in the ninth inning.
Analysis: It was the sixth blown save of the season by Munoz, who gave up multiple hits for only the second time out of 36 appearances this year. The hard-throwing right-hander remains Seattle's clear-cut closer, although he's been rather shaky since opening the campaign with a 0.00 ERA through May 29. Over his last 11.1 frames (12 outings), Munoz owns a 4.76 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB
