Randy Arozarena
Randy Arozarena Swipes bag Wednesday
Wed, May 14, 2025, 8:39 PM
Arozarena went 0-for-2 with a stolen base and was hit by two pitches in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Yankees.
Analysis: Arozarena was no worse for wear after the two plunkings, as he stayed in the game in left field. The outfielder has gone 7-for-24 (.292) over eight contests since last week's injury scare due to a minor hamstring issue. For the season, he's stolen nine bases without getting caught. Arozarena has added a .236/.385/.414 slash line, five home runs, 20 RBI, 18 runs scored and 10 doubles over 40 games.
Luis Castillo
Luis Castillo Turns in quality start
Wed, May 14, 2025, 8:35 PM
Castillo allowed a run on six hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision versus the Yankees on Wednesday.
Analysis: Castillo wasn't at his sharpest but still kept the Yankees off the board until Jasson Dominguez's RBI double in the sixth inning. This was Castillo's fourth quality start of the season, three of which have come over his last four outings. The six strikeouts matched his season high, but he also continued the trend of walking at least two batters in every start so far. He's posted a 3.65 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 39:20 K:BB across 49.1 innings through nine starts in 2025. Castillo is projected for a much more favorable start on the road versus the White Sox next week.
J.P. Crawford
J.P. Crawford Managing shoulder tightness
Wed, May 14, 2025, 6:24 PM
Crawford was scratched from the lineup before Wednesday's game against the Yankees due to shoulder tightness, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: The severity of Crawford's injury remains unknown, but he can be considered day-to-day until the team provides reason to believe otherwise. Leo Rivas and Miles Mastrobuoni are the leading candidates to pick up playing time at shortstop if Crawford has to miss any additional time.
J.P. Crawford
J.P. Crawford Scratched from Seattle lineup
Wed, May 14, 2025, 1:52 PM
Crawford was scratched from Wednesday's lineup versus the Yankees, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.
Analysis: Crawford is presumably dealing with some sort of injury, but the Mariners should provide a reason for the infielder being scratched soon. Leo Rivas has entered the lineup at shortstop and the No. 9 spot in the lineup, while Miles Mastrobuoni will be elevated to the leadoff spot.
Dylan Moore
Dylan Moore Receiving afternoon off
Wed, May 14, 2025, 12:11 PM
Moore is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
Analysis: Moore will get a breather for the day game after he had started in each of Seattle's last three contests while going 3-for-8 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Miles Mastrobuoni will spell Moore at second base.
Jhonathan Diaz
Jhonathan Diaz Rejoins big club
Wed, May 14, 2025, 12:06 PM
The Mariners recalled Diaz from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
Analysis: Diaz will link up with the big club for the second time this season, after he previously made a 1.1-inning relief appearance April 1 against the Tigers before being demoted a day later. Since then, Diaz has been getting stretched out a starter at Tacoma and had produced a 5.87 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 27:10 K:BB over 30.2 innings. Diaz could be available in relief for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, but if he ends up going unused, he might be an option to make a spot start this weekend in San Diego. The Mariners have an opening in the rotation after Bryce Miller (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.
Bryce Miller
Bryce Miller Shut down with elbow inflammation
Wed, May 14, 2025, 11:59 AM
The Mariners placed Miller on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to right elbow inflammation.
Analysis: Miller wasn't known to be nursing an elbow injury, but this issue may explain in part why he labored during his latest start against the Blue Jays on Sunday, when he served up a season-high seven runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings. According to Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com, general manager Justin Hollander said that Miller received a cortisone shot Tuesday to treat the injury, and the Mariners are optimistic that he'll be ready to return from the IL when first eligible May 27. Seattle called up lefty Jhonathan Diaz from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move, and he could take Miller's spot in the rotation this weekend in San Diego if he's not needed in relief in Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
Logan Gilbert
Logan Gilbert Successful bullpen session Tuesday
Tue, May 13, 2025, 6:33 PM
Gilbert (elbow) threw roughly 25 pitches in Tuesday's bullpen session, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Gilbert was able to ramp up the intensity for his final few throws of the day, exceeding 94 mph on multiple occasions. Most importantly, the right-hander didn't experience any discomfort in his elbow following the session. Gilbert will likely begin a rehab assignment in the near future, presumably one consisting of multiple starts before he returns to the major-league roster.
Jorge Polanco
Jorge Polanco Heads to bench
Tue, May 13, 2025, 4:01 PM
Polanco is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Yankees.
Analysis: Polanco has been playing pretty regularly, but he'll head to the bench against tough lefty Max Fried. Polanco is hitting .327 with 10 home runs and one steal in 31 games.
Logan Gilbert
Logan Gilbert Tossing side session Tuesday
Mon, May 12, 2025, 6:37 PM
Gilbert (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: This will mark Gilbert's first official bullpen since being placed on the 15-day injured list with an elbow injury at the end of April, though he reportedly threw off a mound Sunday to a standing catcher. The team has yet to reveal a concrete timetable for Gilbert's return. However, the right-hander will likely need to make at least one or two appearances in the minors before being activated.
George Kirby
George Kirby Set for another rehab start
Mon, May 12, 2025, 6:32 PM
Kirby (shoulder) is expected to make another minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma on Friday in Albuquerque, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Kirby completed his second rehab start with Tacoma on Saturday, surrendering three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters over three innings. The right-hander has missed the entirety of the 2025 campaign so far while recovering from right shoulder inflammation and if all goes well Friday, he'd be on track to return to the major-league roster late next week.
Bryce Miller
Bryce Miller Worst start of season
Sun, May 11, 2025, 10:47 PM
Miller (2-4) allowed seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three over five-plus innings to take the loss versus the Blue Jays on Sunday.
Analysis: Miller struggled throughout the 92-pitch outing, though the game didn't get out of hand until he allowed a three-run home run to George Springer in the fifth inning. The seven runs allowed were a season high for Miller, who has also given up four runs on three other occasions. He's now at a 5.22 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 35:21 K:BB through 39.2 innings over eight starts, and he's yet to complete six innings in any of them. He's tentatively projected to make his next start on the road in San Diego.
Dylan Moore
Dylan Moore Homers for lone run in loss
Sun, May 11, 2025, 10:44 PM
Moore went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 9-1 loss to the Blue Jays.
Analysis: Moore is 4-for-15 with a homer, two stolen bases and three RBI over four games since he returned from a hip strain. The utility player has been one of the Mariners' strongest hitters so far this season, racking up seven homers, 12 RBI, 18 runs scored, seven steals and a .282/.330/.553 slash line through 27 contests. He's already over halfway to matching his career high in homers, which was in 2021 when he slugged 12 long balls in 126 games.
Ben Williamson
Ben Williamson Not in Sunday's lineup
Sun, May 11, 2025, 2:34 PM
Williamson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.
Analysis: After making 10 straight starts at third base, Williamson will hit the bench Sunday after going 8-for-40 (.200 average) with 13 strikeouts during that span. Miles Mastrobuoni will step in at the hot corner and bat eighth.
Jorge Polanco
Jorge Polanco Out of Sunday's lineup
Sun, May 11, 2025, 2:21 PM
Polanco is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.
Analysis: Polanco started the previous six games and experienced his first real slump of the season, as he went 3-for-25 with a double and three RBI during that stretch. The 31-year-old still has an impressive .327/.373/.653 slash line with nine homers and 28 RBI through 111 plate appearances this year. Cal Raleigh will rest his legs as the designated hitter Sunday while Mitch Garver starts at catcher.
Dylan Moore
Dylan Moore Sitting Saturday
Sat, May 10, 2025, 4:06 PM
Moore is not in Seattle's starting lineup against Toronto on Saturday.
Analysis: Moore has started in the Mariners' last three games since returning from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. He'll begin Saturday's contest in the dugout while Miles Mastrobuoni starts at third base and bats eighth.
Logan Gilbert
Logan Gilbert Could throw off mound soon
Sat, May 10, 2025, 4:04 AM
Gilbert (elbow) could throw off a mound by the end of Seattle's current six-game homestand that extends until Wednesday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Gilbert played catch prior to Friday's series opener against the Blue Jays, and it sounds like he's inching toward taking the next step in his throwing progression. The right-hander is recovering from a mild right flexor strain, and Kramer notes it's possible that Gilbert won't need as many rehab starts as teammate George Kirby (shoulder), who is expected to make three appearances in the minors before rejoining Seattle's rotation. However, Gilbert still has some hurdles to clear before reaching that checkpoint, so it remains difficult to gauge whether he'll be able to return before the end of the month.
George Kirby
George Kirby Rehab start slated for Saturday
Sat, May 10, 2025, 3:51 AM
Kirby (shoulder) is scheduled to make another minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Kirby threw 42 pitches in his first rehab outing last Sunday, and he's in line to build up to around 60 pitches in his second appearance Saturday. The right-hander is working his way back from right shoulder inflammation, and Kirby is also expected to make a third start before rejoining Seattle's rotation. That gives him a chance to make his season debut before the end of May, barring any setbacks along the way.
Troy Taylor
Troy Taylor Rejoins big-league bullpen
Fri, May 9, 2025, 12:32 PM
The Mariners recalled Taylor from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
Analysis: Taylor has pitched well over his last seven outings between Tacoma and Seattle, allowing one run with a 9:1 K:BB over seven innings. He'll fill a middle relief role with the Mariners.
Trent Thornton
Trent Thornton Placed on 15-day injured list
Fri, May 9, 2025, 12:28 PM
The Mariners placed Thornton on the 15-day injured list Friday with appendicitis.
Analysis: Thornton will be eligible for activation May 21, but an appendectomy could result in a longer than minimum stay on the IL for the reliever. Troy Taylor is taking Thornton's spot in the bullpen.
