Cole Wilcox
Cole Wilcox Called up by M's
Fri, Mar 27, 2026, 2:22 PM
Seattle recalled Wilcox from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
Analysis: Wilcox, after initially falling short of the Opening Day roster, will join the big-league club after reliever Carlos Vargas (lat) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Wilcox has appeared in just one MLB game during his career.
Carlos Vargas
Carlos Vargas Headed to IL
Fri, Mar 27, 2026, 2:19 PM
The Mariners placed Vargas on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to March 24, due to a right lat strain.
Analysis: Vargas threw 77 innings of relief for the Mariners in 2025 and figured to play an important role out of the bullpen once again in 2026. However, his season debut will be pushed back at least two weeks as he tends to a strained lat. Cole Wilcox was called up from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.
Luke Raley
Luke Raley Smacks Opening Day homer
Fri, Mar 27, 2026, 8:36 AM
Raley went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Guardians.
Analysis: Raley, who got the Opening Day start in right field, led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo shot off Tanner Bibee, tying the game at 3-3. It's a nice start to the season for Raley, who struggled to a .202/.319/.311 slash line with just four homers in 73 games last year. The 31-year-old figures to get the majority of starts against right-handed pitching while splitting time with Victor Robles and Rob Refsnyder in right field.
Brendan Donovan
Brendan Donovan Homer, double in Mariners debut
Fri, Mar 27, 2026, 8:00 AM
Donovan went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Guardians.
Analysis: Donovan got the Mariners offense going in his first regular-season at-bat with the team, as he led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run off Tanner Bibee, tying the game at 1-1. Donovan picked up where he left off in spring training, when he slashed .413/.491/.543 across 57 plate appearances. The 29-year-old is expected to open the year as Seattle's primary third baseman and leadoff batter.
Luis Castillo
Luis Castillo Opening season as fifth starter
Thu, Mar 26, 2026, 8:39 AM
Castillo is slated to make his first start during the Mariners' fifth game of the season Monday versus the Yankees at T-Mobile Park, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Emerson Hancock is the Mariners' de facto fifth starter while stepping into the rotation in place of the injured Bryce Miller (oblique), but he'll end up taking the hill for Seattle's fourth game Sunday versus Cleveland while Castillo moves to the back of the schedule. The rotation setup is likely just a means to get Castillo some extra rest after he started the Mariners' spring training finale Monday in San Diego. Castillo covered five innings and tossed 76 pitches in that outing, so he should be ready to handle a relatively normal workload in his 2026 debut.
Andrew Knizner
Andrew Knizner Loses 40-man spot
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 3:09 PM
The Mariners designated Knizner for assignment Tuesday.
Analysis: Knizner will cede his spot on 40-man roster to Mitch Garver, who beat him out for the No. 2 catcher job coming out of spring training. A lifetime .211/.281/.316 hitter over parts of seven MLB seasons, Knizner could attract interest on the waiver wire from other teams looking to upgrade their backup catcher spot ahead of Opening Day.
Leo Rivas
Leo Rivas Will be Opening Day shortstop
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 2:52 PM
Rivas is slated to start at shortstop for the Mariners on Opening Day after J.P. Crawford (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list, Adam Jude of the Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: The Mariners might have considered top prospect Colt Emerson to play shortstop if Crawford's absence was going to be an extended one, but he's expected back in a couple weeks. As such, the club will turn to the defensively gifted Rivas at shortstop. Rivas has a good eye at the plate, but he's unlikely to be worthy of a roster spot in fantasy leagues even while playing regularly.
Miles Mastrobuoni
Miles Mastrobuoni Sidelined with calf strain
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 2:47 PM
The Mariners placed Mastrobuoni (calf) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis: Mastrobuoni strained his right calf while playing for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic two weeks ago. He'll be eligible to return April 1, but the utility player figures to require a bit more down time than that.
J.P. Crawford
J.P. Crawford Goes on IL with shoulder injury
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 2:45 PM
The Mariners placed Crawford (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis: Crawford has battled nagging right shoulder inflammation since the start of spring training and was given a cortisone injection last week. He is eligible for activation April 1 and has expressed optimism that he could return within the next couple weeks, per Adam Jude of the Seattle Times. Leo Rivas will fill in at shortstop for the Mariners while Crawford is shelved.
Bryce Miller
Bryce Miller Shelved by oblique strain
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 2:38 PM
The Mariners placed Miller on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to a left oblique strain.
Analysis: Miller strained his left oblique in late February and was limited to just one appearance during Cactus League play. He's thrown a pair of bullpen sessions recently and hasn't encountered any known setbacks, but the righty will require several weeks to be build back up, per Adam Jude of The Seattle Times. Emerson Hancock will occupy a spot in the Mariners rotation until Miller is ready to make his 2026 debut.
Mitch Garver
Mitch Garver Added to roster
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 2:29 PM
The Mariners selected Garver's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
Analysis: Garver re-signed with Seattle as a non-roster invitee after camp opened and beat out Jhonny Pereda and Andrew Knizner for the backup catcher job. The 35-year-old will see some starts at catcher on days Cal Raleigh serves as the designated hitter, but Garver's playing time should be fairly limited.
Luis Castillo
Luis Castillo Strong finish to spring slate
Wed, Mar 25, 2026, 9:28 AM
Castillo allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out five across five innings in Monday's matchup with the Padres.
Analysis: Castillo finished Cactus League play on a high note, allowing three runs over nine innings in his final two outings. It's certainly an encouraging development after the right-hander struggled to a 27.00 ERA in his first three appearances (six innings). Castillo, who's posted a sub-4.00 ERA in each of his last seven seasons, made a team-high 32 regular-season starts in 2025, finishing with a 3.54 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 162:46 K:BB across 180.2 innings.
Bryan Woo
Bryan Woo Reaches six innings in final tuneup
Mon, Mar 23, 2026, 4:02 AM
Woo allowed one run on three hits while striking out four without a walk over six innings in Sunday's Cactus League win over the White Sox. "Extremely locked in, extremely focused, the intent he has on the mound is next to none, and it's really a big part of what he does," manager Dan Wilson said after the game regarding Woo's performance, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Divish notes that Woo induced 11 whiffs, including six with his four-seam fastball, on 73 total pitches (52 strikes) in his fourth and final start of spring training. The pitch count sets Woo up for a relatively normal workload in his 2026 regular-season debut this weekend at home against the Guardians. He is not the ace in Seattle, and in fact it appears he will slot in behind both Logan Gilbert and George Kirby, but Woo has a case as a fantasy ace after a top-five finish among fantasy starting pitchers in his age-25 breakout last season.
Yosver Zulueta
Yosver Zulueta Misses the cut
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 7:03 PM
Zulueta was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.
Analysis: Zulueta was traded to Seattle from the Reds in January, and he was able to produce a 3.86 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 10 strikeouts over seven innings in eight appearances with the Mariners during spring training. The right-hander struggled to a 6.14 ERA over 7.1 innings in seven appearances out of the bullpen with Cincinnati in 2025. He'll look to get into a groove at Tacoma in an attempt to get another shot with the Mariners' major-league roster this season.
Cole Wilcox
Cole Wilcox Sent down Sunday
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 6:57 PM
Wilcox was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.
Analysis: Wilcox appeared in eight games with the Mariners during spring training, producing a 4.32 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 11 strikeouts over 8.1 innings. The right-hander was traded to Seattle in November after making his major-league debut with the Rays in 2025. Wilcox will now look to impress with Tacoma in an attempt to get a shot with Seattle's major-league roster down the road this year.
Jhonny Pereda
Jhonny Pereda Headed to Tacoma
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 6:53 PM
Pereda was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.
Analysis: Pereda was traded from the Twins to Seattle in January, and he was able to participate in spring training with the big-league club. The catcher batted .200 with a run scored and a stolen base over 25 at-bats in 15 contests. He'll now head to Tacoma ahead of the 2026 campaign.
Connor Joe
Connor Joe Sent to minor-league camp
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 6:45 PM
Joe was reassigned to minor-league camp Sunday.
Analysis: Joe joined the Mariners at spring training as a non-roster invitee after signing a minor-league contract with the team in February. The 33-year-old produced an impressive .362 average with a home run, six RBI and nine runs scored over 47 at-bats over 19 contests. Joe definitely showed that he still has some life left in his bat after a disappointing 2025 campaign, and he's now on track to begin the year with Triple-A Tacoma.
Mitch Garver
Mitch Garver Set to win No. 2 job
Sun, Mar 22, 2026, 3:22 PM
Garver is expected to begin the season as Seattle's No. 2 catcher, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The 35-year-old re-signed with the Mariners as a non-roster invitee in February and will once again served as the backup catcher to Cal Raleigh. Garver still needs to be added to the big-league roster, but the club isn't expected to finalize the roster until Wednesday. He played in 87 regular-season games last year and clubbed nine homers with a .640 OPS.
Rhylan Thomas
Rhylan Thomas Optioned to Triple-A
Sat, Mar 21, 2026, 5:25 PM
The Mariners optioned Thomas to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.
Analysis: Thomas did everything he could to claim a spot on Seattle's Opening Day roster, slashing .486/.535/.784 with two homers, eight RBI and six runs scored over 43 plate appearances, but he will instead head back to Tacoma to begin 2026. The 25-year-old outfielder has batted .327 and stolen 45 bases across 181 Triple-A games since joining the Mariners organization in 2024, but Seattle's crowded outfield corps will likely make it hard for him to find playing time in the majors.
Victor Robles
Victor Robles Four hits, homer vs. Guardians
Sat, Mar 21, 2026, 10:34 AM
Robles went 4-for-6 with a three-run homer, a double and an additional run scored in Friday's Cactus League matchup with the Guardians.
Analysis: It was an encouraging showing from Robles, who had been struggling mightily this spring. Coming into the day, the outfielder had gone just 2-for-24 in his first 12 Cactus League appearances. Robles should see steady playing time thanks to his defense, though he'll likely open the year in a short-side platoon role alongside lefty batters Dominic Canzone and Luke Raley. A shoulder injury limited Robles to just 32 regular-season appearances in 2025, and he slashed .245/.281/.330 with one homer and six stolen bases.
